3. Make something out of paper, but don't use scissors or glue or draw on it. What now? (And, no, you don't have to know origami to do this.)

Cards are really hard to fold! I was going to make a paper crane but found out really quickly that wasn't going to work. In my family, I am known for my paper cranes. I sometimes use them as gift tags on presents. In elementary school, we read 1,000 Paper Cranes and ever since then, I have been making them. That would be a cool challenge to do as well. 1,000 is a lot though but according to the book you get a wish if you can! Be warned, that book is really depressing if you wanted to read it.

Any ways, speaking of childhood and elementary school, for this challenge I was able to fold a paper airplane. It was tough, but I did it!

There is the bicycle I was talking about in my other post.

It doesn't fly too bad either!

2. What's your favourite animal? Use it as your inspiration today.

Loved this! It was really fun to do. I found a small deck of cards (maybe 3 inches tall) and drew a tiger using the heart as a nose. I thought about colouring him but decided it looked good the way it was.

The more I look at it, the more I think it looks like a snow leopard. Well whatever big cat it is, it makes me have hope that I can still do this. I haven't really drawn in a long time and I'm not bad at it, it's just something that needs to be practised or it can disappear.

1. The first step is the hardest, so start small today and make something that fits in the palm of your hand using only materials in your immediate environment.

I started day one hanging out with my big sister doing crafts. We were making cards so I brought my deck of playing cards to see what I could come up with. Originally I was going to make 365 cards but I liked the playing card idea better.

This is just card stock, an ace and glue. We have a lot of scissors that have funky blades for unique cuts. This deck of cards has some really cool cards (ace and jokers) and they all have bicycles on the backs.

I am already liking what I have created this year. Last time felt so rushed and was just doing the bare minimum.

And yes, this does fit in the palm of my hand, haha.

Start of a new year and a new Challenge

I tried to do one of these a few years ago but ended up getting wayyy too busy with school and work. So I figured now that life has calmed down a bit, I could start this up again. What better time to do so, than the start of the new year!

This year, I am going to use playing cards as my inspiration and suggestions from the book:

A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life! by Noah Scalin.

I like to refer to it as 365 Days of Creativity! I have always had a creative mind but I have a hard time translating my ideas and thoughts onto paper. I went to school for Graphic Design and gained a lot of valuable skills to help me with that. I prefer to work with my hands than to just be at a computer. I am an engraver at a trophy making place and work with my hands and use my computer skills every day! It is the best of both worlds. Now that I have a 9-5 job, I can finally do this 365 day challenge!

This is my new years resolution. Last time I did this challenge I made it to day 72 or something. Not too bad but the goal is to do the full year.

Well, I hope you enjoy what I produce this year. I would love to hear feedback, good or bad!
